A guest speaker I thoroughly enjoyed at the 2011 Vision Expo in Las Vegas was Kathryn M Ireland.  For the last 20+ years she has been designing for Hollywood elite to her next door neighbors. Her home in Southern France is a wonderful example of her design style.  She lovingly spent many years transforming this once dilapidated dwelling.  Her latest book, Summer’s in France, is full of design inspiration for her classic shabby-chic style, family recipes and photos of how she transformed every room of her summer home.  Her easygoing nature and fondness for hostessing a steady stream of summer house guests is apparent in her use of textiles.  House Beautiful named her one of the top 100 designers in the United States and is House & Garden’s “10 to Watch” architects and designers expected to influence 21st-century style.  Some of her design must-haves when creating a space for guests are:

  • Comfortable beds and pillows
  • Lavender bags on pillows and armoires
  • cut fresh flowers
  • Lamp by the bed
  • A table to use for personal items
